About Fantini Research

Fantini Research is a publishing and research firm focused on providing actionable information to institutional investors and C-level executives in the gaming industry. We do this through a variety of products and services.

Our flagship product is Fantini’s Gaming Report. This comprehensive, data-rich report is distributed five days per week and provides complete coverage of everything that has happened in the global gaming industry that is of interest to gaming investors and executives.

Fantini’s Gaming Report is delivered at three tiers of service:

  • Basic. This level provides one comprehensive report of the day's events including news items, financial interests, analysts briefings, revenue stats, and more. We cover US and international companies that are publically traded with some private and tribal-owned as well. Casino suppliers, manufacturers and distributors are included as well as iGaming and sports betting.
  • Executive. This level provides the Basic report plus: Fantini’s Pre-Market notes which are published before the opening of the NYSE giving you pertinent information that happened since the release of the daily report that could help move a stock price along; Bulletins released as necessary, containing important events throughout the day as well as revenue reports of larger states and jurisdictions; Conference Calls -  summaries from gaming companies reporting financial matters or when special calls are announced; Frank Fantini's weekly analytical column in advance of its publication to others, and password access to our online archives. The Executive level is our most popular service, encompassing more than half of our subscribers.
  • Premium. This level includes all the services of Basic and Executive, plus proprietary products: Fantini's National Revenue Report, and Fantini's Public Policy Review:

    • Fantini's National Revenue Report is published monthly with compiled, analysis and tracks trends in gaming revenues in every US jurisdiction, as well as providing breakdowns by casino operators and properties.
    • Fantini's Public Policy Review focuses on the important governmental components affecting the gaming industry – legislative, regulatory, legal and more. Published weekly, the PPR presents a detailed update on all three of those components in one convenient, time-saving place.  A key part of the PPR is password access to our legislative tracker that covers all gaming legislation in all 50 states and Congress.

Elite. This level includes all the services of Premium, plus:                EILERS-FANTINI Quarterly Slot Survey:

    • EILERS-FANTINI Quarterly Slot Survey is the industry’s leading, and the world’s largest, such survey. It is essential for anyone who wants to know and understand gaming equipment and technology trends and competitive standing among gaming suppliers.

Concierge. This level includes everything in the Elite package            as well as Gaming Investor Advisory Services.

Research and Consulting - Fantini provides proprietary              research and market feasibility studies upon request.

Fantini's Gaming Show: A Virtual Trade Show and Newsroom, was created to give gaming companies to display their products in a virtual online e-Booth. All companies, big and small have equal space which can be seen by many pertinent buyers and executives. This is the place to have product demos, photos, and write-ups which can be changed out as often as wanted. It's a great way for suppliers, manufacturers, professional companies, and more in the industry to showcase news about their company.

“Perhaps no industry is as affected by legislative and regulatory decisions as gaming. In this series, leading legislators, regulators and gaming industry executives will discuss the key and emerging issues affecting gaming,” said Laura Briggs, director of public policy at Fantini Research.

“A focus on public policy and effective regulation has been a hallmark of Spectrum Gaming Group since our founding nearly 30 years ago. Public Policy Insights will advance our goal of promoting a full understanding and appreciation of the importance of developing sound public policies,” said Spectrum Managing Director Fredric Gushin.

“We are especially pleased to be co-producing this important series with Spectrum Gaming Group, a top consultancy, public policy research firm and thought leader in the gaming industry,” Fantini Research CEO Frank Fantini said.

Public Policy Insights launches with interviews with Laura Briggs and Spectrum Managing Director Michael Pollock, an award-winning author who has been studying gaming policy for more than four decades.

That will be followed by interviews with Nevada Sen. Keith Pickard, president of the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States, and Richard Kalm, executive director of the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

Public Policy Insights is the latest in the highly successful line of Insights interviews produced by Fantini Research. Others are:

• CEO Insights in which the leaders of the gaming industry’s major companies discuss their outlooks on the future of their companies and the industry.

• Emerging Insights, which highlights CEOs of emerging companies and of companies involved in emerging technologies and emerging trends in the global gaming industry.

FANTINI LAUNCHES NEW GAMING INDICES

Helping You Make Money™

September 23, 2020. Recognizing the dramatic changes in the structure of the gaming industry, Fantini Research has launched a new set of stock indices to measure industry performance.

“These indices are an important tool for investors to track and measure gaming stocks in comparison to the overall market and the dynamics within the gaming industry itself,” Fantini Research CEO Frank Fantini said.

The indices designed by Fantini’s Editor Blake Weishaar have been backdated to January 2, 2018.

In that relatively brief time, the indices show investor enthusiasm over sports betting, which stands at 175.97 points from a base of 100.

The lowest performing of the indices, North American, stands at 100.72 showing that gaming stocks have held up even in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic that has devastated leisure and hospitality stocks this year.

The four indices are:

• Global Top 30 comprised of the 30 largest gaming stocks by market value. Components range from casino operators to gaming suppliers and technology companies to international internet gamers.

• North American is a comprised of 18 companies that represent a cross-section of gaming in the United States and Canada, from casinos to lottery and gaming technology companies and those in online gaming and sports betting.

• Sports betting comprises a dozen leading companies in this emerging sector including operators, platform providers and marketing affiliates.

• Interactive is comprised of 17 companies that, like the other indices, represents a cross section of this sector.

The indices along with a graph that tracks performance historically can be viewed at https://www.fantiniresearch.com/indices-home-page.html.

Fantini Research is the leading source of daily information and news to institutional investors and C-level executives in the gaming industry. The Strategy Organization & Fantini Research announce a series of position papers aimed at assisting senior executives as they lead their businesses into the future

The Strategy Organization, a modern gaming and hospitality consulting firm, and Fantini Research, the leading daily provider of actionable information to C-level executives and investment professionals, have combined forces to produce a four-part series of short position papers entitled “Moving On: What Gaming Operators and Investors Should Focus on After the Doors Open”.

For weeks, the gaming industry headlines have been dominated by stories about safety, sanitation and health protocols, and rightfully so. However, as casino doors open again, other important topics
should start to come into focus.

This series will showcase a selection of critical themes starting with the more immediate subject matter of guest and team member sentiment and moving further out on the time horizon with each
position paper, tackling topics like service automation and mergers and acquisitions.

These are not your typical lengthy and comprehensive, yet seldom read, white papers. Rather they are short bursts of important thought-starters that can help guide busy senior executives’ thinking as they lead their business into the future.

Gaming America - Winds of change set to continue for US sports betting, according to Fantini report

A state lottery may finally become legal in Alabama this year, with tribal casino expansion plans offering to support a lottery, according to a Fantini Research report.

The National Legislative Preview, published by industry journal Fantini Research, reports that a $1bn offer from The Poarch Creek would see expansion for its casinos to include Class III gaming, which supports a state lottery.

The plan would promise $350m in projected tax revenue. The state is one of just five currently without a lottery, with legislation failing in the past two years.

The findings of the report also suggest a state-wide referendum is expected to allow casinos, racetracks and sports betting in Georgia, while Northern Virginia could get an additional $155m in tax revenue if legislation passes for a casino.

Sports betting is set to become available in Michigan within the next 12 months, after the state enacted legislation that legalizes sports wagering for both commercial and tribal casinos, which could serve as a model for others to follow.

Federal legislation has also been introduced to pave the way for tribes to offer online sports betting without violating the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

California could be set for change, with hearings set to begin later this month into a state-wide sports betting referendum.

A Horse Racing Integrity Act is being considered, which would create an independent anti-doping authority to oversee a nationwide drug control program for horse racing, with 53% participating in a Reuters survey supporting the move.

Fantini’s review, compiled by its public policy editor Laura Briggs, examines the key issues facing the gaming industry in 2020, with sports betting currently legal in 20 states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, with another 15 states to launch operations.

GAMING CEOs: LITTLE SIGN OF RECESSION

The CEOs of the leading suppliers to the casino and gaming industry see little evidence of a recession.

Speaking at the Fantini Research CEO One-On-One interview series at the industry’s G2E trade show, the CEOs continue to see business confidence on the part of casino companies that buy their products and on the part of casino patrons.

The observations by these CEOs is important in that any change in the spending of casino patrons is among the first indicators of change in consumer confidence.

Among the CEOs, Mike Rumbolz of Everi, noted that his payments company sees consumer activity in real time as it provides daily ATM, check cashing and credit check services to casinos and there is no sign of consumer spending slowing down.

Likewise, Harald Neumann of Austrian-based international gaming conglomerate Novomatic noted that, while many European business executives are predicting an economic slowdown, his company is enjoying a strong and growing second half of the year.

So far, prospects of a recession “appear to be more sentiment than reality,” said Neumann, whose company operates in 70 countries.

Those observations and others about the gaming industry and their companies are discussed in quick-to-view videos running at an average of 10 to 12 minutes each, by 21 leading CEOs at https://www.fantiniresearch.com/conventions/g2e/g2e-2019-ceo-one-on-ones.html.

The videos are produced by Fantini Research, publisher of the daily Fantini’s Gaming Report that serves executives and investors in the gaming industry. Fantini also publishes the gaming industry’s Public Policy Review and co-publishes proprietary research in the EILERS-FANTINI Quarterly Slot Survey, EILERS-FANTINI Game Performance Database and the Distributed Gaming Report with Fifth Third Bank.

An open letter to Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, by Frank Fantini

The following is an open letter by Frank Fantini, CEO of Fantini Research and Publisher of Fantini's Gaming Report:

The report by Union Gaming Analytics might have thrown cold water on plans for a Chicago casino as outlined in recently enacted gaming legislation, but in doing so, the report has opened a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you.

My proposal is for Illinois and Chicago to take the exact opposite approach. Instead of proposing what would amount to a slot barn with little to no likelihood of success, dream big. Go for a world-class integrated resort reflecting Chicago’s status as a world-class city.

With a reasonable tax rate and assurance of a city monopoly, renown companies like Las Vegas Sands, Wynn Resorts and MGM Resorts would eagerly compete to build an integrated resort that would be an international tourist attraction.

Say to them: “Come on. Give us your best shot and whoever proposes a resort  that will be internationally iconic will get the license.”

That is what Singapore did, and Las Vegas Sands invested $8 billion in building a property that features three high-rise luxury hotel towers supporting a SkyPark that spans all three.

Marina Bay Sands in Singapore generated more than $3 billion in revenue last year. Think of what half of that would mean for Illinois. And Las Vegas Sands is currently planning a $3 billion expansion.

In Macau, six casino companies have, and are, investing billions upon billions of dollars, and they’re doing it at approximately a 40 percent gaming tax.

The draw historically has been Asian high rollers who spend huge sums of money gambling. But the trend in Macau today is to build integrated resorts with compelling tourist attractions to appeal to the rapidly growing Chinese middle class and to tourists from throughout the vast Asia-Pacific region from Korea to Japan to Indonesia.

Las Vegas Sands flagship Venetian Macau generated $3.474 billion in revenue last year and it’s five Macau properties combined for $8.529 billion in revenue. No wonder the company, and its five competitors, are pouring in more billions of dollars to build resorts intended to make Macau the top tourist destination in Asia.

Consider Japan. The Big Three casino companies mentioned above all say they are willing to invest $8 billion to $10 billion for one of the three Japanese licenses, and that will be with a 30 percent gaming tax and plenty of restrictions aimed at guarding against problem gambling.

What would the big integrated resort companies be willing to invest in Chicago with the right economics? Maybe not as much as Singapore, Osaka or Macau, but you can bet it would be in the billions of dollars.

Two more things need to be part of this approach to making Chicago an international draw: 1) Escaping the fear about what an integrated resort would do to McCormick Place and 2) Putting the casino in the very best location for its success.

McCormick Place has nothing to fear from an integrated resort. In fact, the resort would make Chicago that much stronger a competitor for conventions.

Consider Las Vegas.  MGM Resorts has been steadily building convention space and is now up to nearly 4 million square feet, with 2 million square feet at Mandalay Bay alone.  Las Vegas Sands Expo Center is 1.7 million square feet.

What impact does this have on the Las Vegas Convention Center? It is investing $860 million on a project that includes adding 600,000 square feet of convention space to its current 2.2 million square feet.

In other words, more first-class convention space will make Chicago a more successful convention city.

Finally, the key to success is not high taxes and fees. It is in Chicago taking advantage of being an international, world-class city, and thereby generating far more economic benefit to the city and state than high taxes that preclude success.

Let the City of Big Shoulders be the City of Big Dreams. And accept no less.

Historical Horse Racing Examined

January 8, 2019

The phenomenon known as historical horse racing is proliferating in the United States, with the slot-like machines operating in Wyoming, Kentucky and soon Virginia, while proposed in others including Illinois.

Fantini Research outlines this subject in Historical Horse Racing, Examining the Potential of an Emerging Sector of the Gaming Industry, a special report.

This report by Public Policy Editor Laura Briggs describes the games, also called instant racing, and addresses the questions of how the games perform compared to conventional slot machines, where they are already legal and likely to become legal and whether the games are a stop-gap in markets without casinos or an important part of the future of the gaming and horse racing industries.

The $500 report can be purchased by contacting Alex Capitle at 302-730-3793 or ACapitle@FantiniResearch.com.
