BACKGROUND

Kansas Crossing Casino is located outside of Pittsburg, Kansas and features some of the most popular casino games, hottest slots and 16 live action table games while offering an approachable, first-rate, Vegas style gaming experience. There are food and beverage options; Two Brothers Mining Company and the Bronco Bar located at central points within the property.  We knew there was something missing from an advertising perspective for this property, but who or what could it be?

THE ANSWER: BRUTUS!

When Kansas Crossing Casino was in its initial stages of construction, Buzz Creative gathered together and decided to create Brutus. Brutus is a one-of-a-kind mascot built and named after the iconic ‘BIG BRUTUS’ mining shovel, which is on display just down the street from the property. His character is a fun and loving miner from back in the day when miners strolled the streets of Pittsburg.

Brutus welcomes guests at each event, says ‘hello’ on some direct mail pieces, and checks in on social media. He may also be found high-fiving jackpot winners on the casino floor or dining at one of the casinos restaurants!  Brutus has become more than just the property’s mascot, but an idol in the community. Brutus takes part in non-profit events and teams up with the Pitt State mascot, Gus the Gorilla, to entertain crowds at collegiate athletic events or local parades. Creating Brutus developed an easy and organic way for Kansas Crossing Casino to become invested within the community.

THE WHY

Pittsburg, Kansas’ roots are mining-based. To honor its heritage and keep the historical mining narrative alive, we wanted to create a character that would capture the town’s past. Kansas Crossing is a rural property that boasts a small casino floor packed with gaming excitement and down-home amenities. When you walk into the building, you can feel the fun. Brutus is the perfect concept to support the casino and its amenities. He helps bring life to events and promotions in a fun light-hearted way!
