It should be noted that the continuous participation of regulators in the different Roundtables, when exchanging experiences allows us to keep up-to-date with the technological developments that are emerging year by year, as well as new techniques and solutions to the common problems that we are facing. Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) to Continue as Leading Testing Laboratory in Illinois

LAKEWOOD, N.J., Sept. 24, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) has once again been recognized by the Illinois Gaming Board to perform testing and certification services for the State's riverboat casino and video gaming markets. GLI is the only testing laboratory that has been continuously recognized by the Illinois Gaming Board (IGB) since the opening of the State's first casinos in 1991.

GLI has repeatedly outscored other testing labs in independently administered competitive bidding processes to evaluate the quality, value, and comprehensiveness of testing services most appropriate for the complex Illinois gaming market. GLI's license under the rules recently promulgated by the Board means that customers will have a seamless transition under the new licensing rules.

"The Illinois riverboat casino and video gaming market requires a thorough understanding of the technical requirements, rules and procedures for the approval of gaming equipment," said GLI Global Manager of Technical Compliance Peter Wolff. "GLI's 28 years of experience working in this environment is essential to performing a proper and timely product evaluation for Illinois. Knowing the details is critical to success, and no one understands those details like GLI."

Since 1991, GLI has certified approximately 67,000 components for the Illinois riverboat gaming market. Additionally, GLI is the only lab to ever have been recognized to test for the video gaming market and since 2010 has certified just under 5,000 components.

GLI served as an adviser to IGB in the development of the technical standards for its central control and monitoring system (CMCS), and then certified the system along with each subsequent modification.

"Video gaming in Illinois is a unique and requires highly specialized knowledge of the IGB CMCS, kiosk requirements, rules that are unique to Illinois and the expectations of the IGB staff," Wolff said.

"We have invested heavily in developing our team of experts devoted to servicing the Illinois gaming market," said GLI President and CEO James Maida. "Our dedicated Illinois staff meets twice weekly with IGB staff to ensure projects stay on track and that our testing efficiently meets the high standards of the Illinois regulators. Doing this requires specialized knowledge and experience – it is not a service you can just create out of air. We take great pride in offering the best possible customer service and quality to our clients in the Illinois market, as we do with each of our clients worldwide."

GLI has established itself as the most highly accredited gaming testing lab in the world by a wide margin. The GLI Group of Companies maintains 27 accreditations from various accreditation bodies worldwide.

AGEM and GLI Donate $200,000 to Problem Gambling Center

LAS VEGAS (September 16, 2019) – Through their joint charitable venture, the Lasting Impact Philanthropic Initiative, today the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers (AGEM) and Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) have committed $200,000 to the Dr. Robert Hunter International Problem Gambling Center over the next two years.

The gift was made in part to highlight the importance of Responsible Gaming Education Week 2019, running September 15-21 and organized by the American Gaming Association (AGA) as a national push for responsible gaming education, training and awareness that includes participation from many industry stakeholders.

Executive Director Stephanie Goodman said, “We are so grateful for the incredibly generous donation that AGEM and GLI have pledged to our center. The unprecedented transformation of our clients during our six-week Intensive Outpatient Program developed by Dr. Rob Hunter, speaks volumes to the effectiveness of a program that combines group therapy with cognitive-behavioral therapy and science. Because of this generous gift from our industry partners, AGEM and GLI, this money will have a direct impact on problem gamblers in our community. Problem gambling, officially termed as a Gambling Disorder in the DSM-5, is recognized as an addictive disorder, alongside alcohol and drug use disorder. PGC is working to educate our community in an effort to remove the stigma associated with this disease while at the same time, healing the clients who commit to our program.”

Commenting for the Lasting Impact Philanthropic Initiative, GLI Spokesperson Lori Sayde said, “AGEM and GLI, through the Lasting Impact Philanthropic Initiative, support the Problem Gambling Center because its multi-pronged approach to helping individuals through evaluation, treatment and counseling, regardless of their ability to pay, is an essential service.”

“We are also pleased to make this contribution as Responsible Gaming Education Week kicks off, and to join forces with the countless operators, suppliers, regulators, and organizations that are united in the fight against problem gambling and who are committed to supporting programs that help individuals affected by this disorder,” Sayde continued.

This is the first joint effort by AGEM and GLI through the Initiative to support responsible gaming. Separately, both companies have long histories of supporting responsible gaming efforts in policy and in financial support.

“AGEM has been a supporter of the amazing work done by the Problem Gambling Center in Las Vegas since our inception and our annual contributions over the past 20 years now total nearly $1 million,” AGEM Executive Director Marcus Prater said. “We are still saddened by Dr. Hunter’s untimely passing last year, but are encouraged by the motivation of the PGC team to carry on his powerful legacy that assists so many Nevadans in need.”

AGEM and GLI announced the Lasting Impact Philanthropic Initiative earlier this year and made its first gift to the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering building fund at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, which was a $500,000 contribution.

“We have been working diligently at each of our worldwide locations to transition our test labs as quickly as possible from the 2005 version to this latest-available 2017 version of ISO 17025,” said GLI Vice President of Technical Compliance and Quality Assurance Chris Gallo. “Our mission is to provide the highest quality testing possible to our clients, and acting within the requirements of our accreditation bodies is a crucial step in that mission.”

Beginning in October 2018, GLI has transitioned its test labs in Asia, Australia, Holland, North America, South Africa, and Spain in an ongoing effort to ensure that its testing labs are compliant with the most current ISO requirements.

While not all of its test labs have yet completed the transition from the 2005 version to the 2017 version, all GLI test labs are operating under the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017.

Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) is First Lab to Receive American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) Approval for 2017 Version of ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation

Zero Deficiencies Found;

Approval Applies to GLI Labs in New Jersey, Colorado, Nevada, British Colombia, and Macau

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (June 20, 2019) – Gaming Laboratories International’s (GLI®) laboratories in Lakewood, New Jersey, Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Las Vegas, Nevada, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Macau, China have received approval from American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) to transition GLI’s Scopes of Accreditation to the 2017 version of the ISO/IEC 17025 standard, which is the latest version available:  GLI is the first independent gaming lab to achieve this accreditation.

The approval was given after A2LA performed an assessment of GLI management systems and found zero deficiencies. Last year, these same GLI labs once again earned biennial accreditation for ISO/IEC 17025 technical standards.

“Compliance is at the heart of our customers’ businesses, so it is essential to our regulatory, supplier, and operator clients that GLI also maintain the highest levels of accreditation compliance. We are very pleased to have received this latest approval from A2LA,” said Chris Gallo, GLI Vice President of Technical Compliance and Quality Assurance.

“We work diligently daily throughout each and every one of our labs to maintain a very mature and effective management system, which is in place to assure consistently high quality and comparable results across all offices,” Gallo added.

GLI laboratories have been accredited by the A2LA for 13 years. With 17 accredited labs globally, GLI has established itself as the most highly accredited gaming testing lab in the world by a wide margin. The GLI Group of Companies maintains 27 accreditations from various accreditation bodies worldwide.

The rigorous accreditation process takes several weeks to complete and involves written responses and onsite inspections. GLI invests nearly $120,000 in fees and expenses annually to uphold global accreditation, exclusive of labor costs for the dedicated team that manages GLI’s quality system globally, or the nearly 1,000 hours required in support of the accreditation process annually.

GLI to Showcase 30 Years of iGaming and Sports Wagering Experience at ICE North America

Kevin Mullally, VP of Govt. Affairs and General Counsel, to Speak on “Regulatory Harmonization”

LAS VEGAS, NV (May 7, 2019) – Coinciding with its 30th anniversary, Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) will spotlight three decades of customer service in global interactive gaming at the first-ever ICE North America.

GLI Digital’s team of experts will be on hand at booth #J20 to provide attendees with valuable insights as to how GLI’s world-class iGaming, sports wagering, cybersecurity testing and certification, auditing, and professional consultancy services will help them create a game plan for success, both in the U.S. and globally.

In the conference area, GLI Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Kevin Mullally will join Interim Chairperson of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission Gayle Cameron, for the session “Minimum Standards and Regulatory Harmonization – Pipe Dream or an Achievable Reality?” They will explore how best practices can be shared between regulators and legislators to avoid excessive regulatory fragmentation, along with finding common ground between regulatory and legislative forces to tackle responsible gaming, sports integrity, and enforcement issues.

Since the repeal of PASPA, GLI has responded to numerous inquiries from regulators, tribes, suppliers, and operators regarding jurisdictional requirements as they look to participate in regulated event wagering. GLI’s strong experience in online testing and sports betting, as well the company’s in-depth knowledge of each jurisdiction’s varying stipulations, has been heavily valued.

“We’ve been testing and certifying iGaming, sports, and events wagering for 30 years; however, until now, that testing was always outside the U.S.,” said GLI Vice President of iGaming & Canadian Services Salim L. Adatia. “Now we are helping our clients in emerging markets within the U.S. and Latin America too, bringing decades of experience to work for them. By fostering strong collaborations with regulators, tribes, suppliers, and operators, GLI ensures our clients enter jurisdictions fully prepared. We help them at every step of the process – from first understating the requirements so there are no surprises or delays to market, and then helping them succeed in their testing and consultancy needs.”

GLI Digital is everywhere iGaming is going and is approved in all regulated iGaming markets around the world. GLI Digital actively supports testing, consultation, and technical standards for all areas of gaming and sports wagering offered via the internet, mobile, wireless in-venue, and interactive TV. GLI Successfully Oversees the World’s First Private Manager Transition Project

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (April 22, 2019) – Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) has successfully overseen the world’s first Private Manager Agreement Transition Project, working on behalf of the Illinois Lottery.

Acting Director of the Illinois Lottery Harold Mays said, “GLI ensured all parties stayed informed and coordinated throughout the two-and-a half-year-long project. We could not have successfully completed this complex transition without GLI.”

General Manager of Camelot Illinois Colin Hadden added, “GLI’s governance oversight and project management expertise were invaluable to this transition.”

The first project of its kind, the complex disentanglement of Lottery business operations included transitioning all Private Manager lottery operations and processes from one vendor to a new vendor. In addition, the transition included all underlying technology, as GLI oversaw the transition of both lottery business operational processes, as well as core-system migration to deliver a new retail network, new data centers, new iLottery platform, and integration with the lottery’s scratch-ticket management system.

GLI experts also implemented governance processes to ensure quality delivery by vendors in the areas of project management, business and technical requirements, development and quality assurance testing, and data center and network design and implementation, along with retailer rollout and security.

After winning a competitive bid, GLI operated a Project Management Office (PMO) for two-and-a-half years for the oversight and management of the Private Manager Disentanglement Agreement Project transitioning the Illinois State Lottery from one Private Manager to another. GLI played a critical role as the PMO, implementing the necessary governance and project-management infrastructure to ensure the success of this transition, which concluded in February 2019.

Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) to Provide Quality Assurance and Consulting Services to Lotto Hamburg in Connection with New Lottery System

HAARLEM, The Netherlands (5 February 2019) – Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) has been awarded a contract to provide Lotto Hamburg with ongoing Quality Assurance (QA) and testing services for the various stages of the lottery’s strategic lottery central system renewal project.

Lotto Hamburg’s industry-first strategic system renewal development project will lead to considerably faster time-to-market; significantly lowering test efforts and, at the same time, reducing maintenance costs. This is mainly due to a completely modular software design and architecture that will enable the lottery to configure all types and combinations of lottery games in real time and for all sales channels with just a “click of the mouse.” The new system also allows multi-tenancy operation in support of multiple lottery operators utilizing the same core system. This novel approach represents a paradigm shift in lottery system architecture.

In the current phase of the project, GLI is supporting Lotto Hamburg in the development of business requirements together with the selected lottery systems vendor. This will lead to the creation of top-quality testing protocols, which GLI will then use to test the system being implemented against. This approach will ensure the utmost quality in the software delivery lifecycle of the vendor and a smooth development process, thus meeting project timelines, budget requirements, and the overall time-to-market objectives of the project.

“GLI brought its lottery systems renewal experience to this project, which helped us in looking past the shiny veneer of the solutions we were offered in the initial evaluation phase,” said Rainer Ballhausen, Lotto Hamburg’s head of IT. “We are also happy to have GLI support our QA team in the implementation phase, which adds significant value to our quality process and allows us to internally focus on the implementation of the new system and our processes, while GLI expertly leads the QA process with the vendor.”

“Lotto Hamburg is no doubt in the vanguard among European lotteries with this multi-tenancy capable system renewal,” said Thomas Bierbach, GLI’s Director of Lottery Services. “We are proud to support Lotto Hamburg in this industry-leading effort by offering them our decades of unparalleled expertise in lottery systems modernization and quality assurance services, delivered through our Bulletproof-branded QA labs and resources; whose experience in lottery systems renewal and QA testing is unmatched in the industry.”

The contract for QA and testing services was awarded to GLI after it successfully provided Lotto Hamburg with independent technical verification and validation (IV&V) of vendor-offered concepts, validating that the submitted concepts would indeed meet Lotto Hamburg’s technical requirements.

Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) Certifies First Tribal Sports Book in the U.S. To GLI-33 Event-Wagering Standard

GLI provides training and technical support to help ensure a flawless opening of the new tribal sports book at the Pearl River Resort in Mississippi

LAS VEGAS, NV (September 11, 2018) – The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians made history on Thursday, August 31, 2018, at 10:00.m. CST as the new sports book at their Pearl River Resort became the first tribal sports book in the U.S. to open with a system that is fully certified as compliant with Gaming Laboratories International’s (GLI®) landmark GLI-33 Event-Wagering Technical Standard.

At the request of the Choctaw Gaming Commission, GLI assisted the Commission’s technical and auditing staffs with on-site support to verify the internal controls and installation configuration of IGT’s® “Margin-Maker™” event-wagering system to GLI-33 standards. This helped ensure a flawless go-live of the sports book’s system from the moment the first wager was placed.

Additionally, sports-wagering experts from GLI University® provided two and a half days of on-site classroom-style training on the various aspects of sports wagering, from a technical, regulatory, and operational perspective.

“The Choctaw Gaming Commission took a very pragmatic approach to sports wagering,” stated Mackenzie Haugh, GLI’s Director of Engineering. “They first ensured that their commissioners, auditors, and technical staff were familiar with the many aspects of sports wagering such as events and the various types of bets, trading platforms and live feeds, reporting and auditing, and change management to name a few. This allowed them to take an educated, risk-based approach in selecting which aspects of their system should be regulated and audited while to not stifle the needs of operations on such an organic system. And through GLI University training and on-site technical teams leading up to go-live, GLI was happy and excited to help.”

GLI dedicated a team of experts to developing GLI-33 as the industry’s first event-wagering technical standard, and that working group spent approximately a year formulating GLI-33. The need for the standard became apparent after GLI received numerous requests from U.S. state regulators, sports betting operators, sovereign tribal nations, lotteries, and industry suppliers around the world to establish a clear and cohesive technical standard for sports/event wagering systems. The desire was to establish a standard to help them regulate and/or implement legal wagering on sports and other events.

Upon the official release of GLI-33, the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians was one of several regulatory bodies to immediately adopt the new standard. Prior to the release of GLI-33, which is part of the GLI Standards Series, a draft standard had undergone extensive industry review and comment from gaming and lottery regulators, industry suppliers, industry operators and industry trade associations.

Mississippi followed Delaware and New Jersey as the third state to legalize and launch sports betting after the Supreme Court’s historic ruling overturning the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA); allowing for the expansion of sports-wagering opportunities throughout the country.

Under the renewed agreement, GLI will continue to provide the PRTC with a dedicated team of experts for on-site inspections of gaming devices and systems, as well as associated equipment testing and audits of gaming systems, devices, and kiosks. Irizarry Delgado, Gaming Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company said, “The Gaming Division of the PR Tourism Company has contracted GLI’s services for the past 16 years without interruption. As regulators, we have obtained an excellent and professional service that has allowed us to be always ahead with everything related to new technologies, programs and modalities of emerging games. As part of our recent regulatory efforts, we are in the final stages of testing the use of the IRIS Online program in a modality that will allow us to achieve a better measurement of our communications systems and certification of gaming machines in our authorized casinos. Additionally, we are working together with GLI on Legislative projects regarding Online Gaming and Sports Betting, a measure in which we can regulate this activity and achieve growth in the sector. We thank James Maida and all his team for the support and consulting during all these years.”

The agreement includes renewal of the PRTC’s subscription to the IRIS® Online slot management system by Kobetron. IRIS Online empowers the PRTC to track all certified software components on casino floors, providing real-time updates to non-compliant software. Additional features provided to the PRTC include customized workflow, accounting, machine and component tracking, change requests, and claim dispute implementation.

The renewed agreement between GLI and the PRTC also includes a variety of scholastic services, training, and curricula provided through the company’s GLI University® training program.

Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) Publicly Releases “GLI-33 Event Wagering” Technical Standard

Regulators, Operators, and Suppliers from Around the World Contribute to and Adopt GLI-33 as part of a Year-Long Collaborative Process

LAKEWOOD, NJ (August 7, 2018) – Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) has publicly released its landmark “GLI-33: Event Wagering Systems” standard. The technical standard, which has been adopted by several state and tribal regulators, represents the most highly developed set of technical requirements and practices available for sports wagering systems. The standard is available free of charge at http://www.gaminglabs.com/gli-standards.

Upon its release, several regulatory bodies and industry experts immediately adopted and/or endorsed the new standard, including the Choctaw Gaming Commission of Choctaw Mississippi, the West Virginia Lottery, Cherokee Tribal Gaming Commission of North Carolina, and Global Market Advisors.

GLI’s Director of Technical Compliance Chad Kornett led the company’s standard-development team. He said, “GLI-33 is an essential addition to the GLI Standards Series, channeling the experience of our global sports-wagering team into a framework that regulators can seamlessly incorporate within their operations. Great care was taken to create a standard that supports the most innovative sports wagering applications while also anchoring fundamental regulatory objectives. GLI collaborated directly with regulators, technology providers, and operators to ensure the document represents the most highly developed standards and best practices in existence today. We profoundly thank the industry for its participation and are thrilled to incorporate this important addition to the GLI Standards Series.”

Chair of the Choctaw Gaming Commission of Choctaw, Mississippi Bea Carson said, “The Choctaw Gaming Commission of Choctaw Mississippi and Gaming Laboratories have a long history of working together, and GLI has always been there to provide their expertise when needed. It is because of that trusted industry knowledge and valued relationship that we have chosen to adopt the GLI-33 standard for sports betting. We feel that the GLI Standards have always been robust enough to ensure game integrity while not so restrictive as to limit these new types of gaming technologies.”

West Virginia Lottery Director Alan Larrick said, “The West Virginia Lottery considers the GLI-33 event wagering standard an integral component in the regulatory structure for our sports wagering offering. Our team is very grateful to have access to a technical resource that has been worked on collectively by the industry and it will also serve to protect our patrons, vendors, and licensees.”

Managing Director of Sports Betting & Technology for Global Market Advisors John English said, “As states move forward with legalizing sports betting, the GLI-33 standard provides a solid foundation for regulators, operators, and suppliers to offer continued integrity in sports wagering. We appreciate the opportunity to contribute to these standards on important issues such as responsible gaming, privacy, banking, and AML laws and look forward to working with industry stakeholders to use the standards developed by GLI for Event Wagering Systems.”

The need for the standard became apparent after GLI received numerous requests from U.S. state regulators, sports betting operators, sovereign tribal nations, lotteries, and industry suppliers around the world to establish a clear and cohesive technical standard for sports/event wagering systems. The desire was to establish a standard to help regulatory agencies preserve the integrity of legal wagering on sports and other events while doing so in a way that is efficient and supports innovation.

GLI-33, which is part of the GLI Standards Series, was developed by the company’s dedicated sports wagering team, which drew from its nearly 30 years of global sports/event wagering experience throughout markets in Australia, Europe, Africa, Latin America, Canada, and the U.S. by compiling and integrating sports wagering regulatory best practices from around the world.

After nearly a year of effort, the draft version was distributed to the global community of regulators, industry suppliers, industry operators, and industry trade associations immediately following the repeal of PASPA. GLI-33 has since undergone extensive industry review and comment which has been analyzed and applied in developing the published version.

As with all GLI Standards, GLI-33 is a “living document” that will continue to be refined as part of an ongoing process of gathering industry input. GLI continues to accept feedback and will engage subsequent rounds of updates and public comments, as the global sports/event wagering market continues to evolve.

Additionally, GLI plans to create another standard on change management systems and a framework for periodic operational audits that will further help regulators and operators create more efficient and alternative processes to monitor sports wagering operations.

GLI President/CEO James Maida Honored with OIGA’s Modern Day Warrior Award in Recognition of 20+ Years of Dedication to Oklahoma Indian Gaming

GLI Appearing at OIGA Trade Show; GLI Experts to Address Attendees

LAKEWOOD, NJ (July 24, 2018) – Gaming Laboratories International’s (GLI®) President/CEO James Maida has been a supporter of Oklahoma Indian gaming for more than 20 years, and now the Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association has honored Maida as a recipient of the organization’s prestigious Modern Day Warrior Award.

“I am honored to be named a Modern Day Warrior by the Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association,” Maida said. “Working in the Oklahoma gaming industry over the last 20 years has been my absolute privilege, and I am humbled to get this award from this incredible group of people.”

Maida’s involvement with Oklahoma Tribes dates back to the beginning of tribal gaming in the state. Maida served as a fact witness in multiple cases in Oklahoma’s pre-compact era, such as the landmark Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma et al v. the National Indian Gaming Commission et al and cases involving Mega Mania, Lucky Tab II Pull-Tab Game, Tab Force, and Wild Ball Bingo. These cases set the stage for gaming in Oklahoma as it is known today, and Maida’s testimony, along with many others, was critical to the proceedings.

GLI was involved with both parties in helping negotiate their initial compacts and the language adopted by referendum by the voters of Oklahoma. GLI has been doing testing for Oklahoma Tribes since 2004, and the company has issued more than 66,500 certifications, helping Tribes ensure compliance and protect their investments.

Sheila Morago, Executive Director, Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association, said, “The Modern Day Warrior Award is the highest honor OIGA bestows upon individuals who have dedicated tireless effort and support to champion the cause of Oklahoma Tribal Gaming. James Maida has been on the front line of defense for the rights and sovereignty of the nations that comprise the Indian Gaming Industry, and we are pleased to honor him for his dedication and leadership.”

Mike McBride III, Chair of the Indian Law & Gaming Practice Group at Crowe & Dunlevy, added, “James Maida has been at the forefront of gaming technology and regulation. He is a modern-day gaming pioneer. In Indian gaming he has helped fight to protect ‘maximum flexibility’ with the emergence of new technology for Class II gaming under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. He has led and helped to craft a stable regulatory regime that has allowed Indian gaming to flourish across the country.”

GLI will be in booth #1015 at the OIGA trade show discussing its many tribal-focused products and services. The company has been testing Class II gaming products since 1989, longer than any other test lab, is a longtime OIGA supporter, and has been an Associate Member of NIGA since 1999.

Leading GLI’s presence at OIGA is Senior Client Services Representative Blaine Preston. Preston, who is a member of the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma, brings more than 15 years of professional experience in regulatory technical compliance, risk management, and security operations to GLI’s clients.

GLI experts will lend their insights to three panels during the show. First, Vice President of Government Affairs and General Counsel Kevin P. Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary with the South Dakota Commission on Gaming

LAKEWOOD, NJ (June 20, 2018) – Gaming Laboratories International, (GLI®) is celebrating its 30th anniversary working in partnership with the South Dakota Commission on Gaming. To mark this historic milestone, GLI President and CEO James Maida presented the Commission with a special plaque commemorating the renewal of GLI’s longstanding consulting contract during the Commission’s quarterly business meeting in Deadwood, South Dakota on June 20, 2018.

South Dakota became a pioneer in the gaming industry more than three decades ago by being the first state in the country to implement a video lottery system. At the time, the state’s Lottery Commission turned exclusively to a new company called GLI for start-up consultation and video terminal/system testing and certification. Soon after, the South Dakota Commission on Gaming was created to regulate casinos and contracted with GLI for slot machine testing. Now, 30 years later, GLI and the South Dakota Commission on Gaming are continuing their three-decade relationship by renewing GLI’s consulting contract.

Since it first began, the contractual relationship between GLI and the South Dakota Commission on Gaming has evolved along with gaming in the state. Today, GLI tests a wide variety of advanced electronic gaming equipment and consults with the state on the latest emerging gaming technologies.

“In 1989, the State of South Dakota took a chance on a small startup gaming test lab and today we can look back with a sense of pride in all that we have accomplished together during these many years,” said James Maida, President and CEO of GLI. “We have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with the State of South Dakota and the South Dakota Commission on Gaming. We owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude for believing in our company and sharing our vision of how gaming could flourish under the protection of independent testing. We look forward to working together for years to come to ensure the integrity and prosperity of South Dakota’s trailblazing gaming industry.”

“Since the inception of gaming in South Dakota, GLI has been an invaluable part of our accomplishments from the outset,” stated Larry B. Eliason, Executive Secretary for the South Dakota Commission on Gaming. “As we began the process of implementing gaming throughout the state, we needed to ensure our residents, and ourselves, that gaming could be conducted honestly and successfully, while protecting competition and public policy. Our close relationship with GLI was, and continues to be, a key element in achieving those goals.”

Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) Releases Draft Event Wagering Technical Standard for Industry-Wide Comment

Significant Regulator, Operator, and Supplier Demand for Sports Betting Technical Standard Culminates After a Year-Long Process of Analysis and Collaboration

LAKEWOOD, NJ (June 5, 2018) – After more than a year of working closely with domestic and international gaming stakeholders, Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) announced that it has released its longawaited draft technical standard specifically for event-wagering operations. “GLI-33: Event Wagering Systems” is a technical standard produced by GLI for the purpose of providing independent technical analysis and/or certifications to wagering industry stakeholders wishing to represent compliance for their wagering operations and systems.

GLI Responds to Significant Demand

More than 12 months ago, U.S. state regulators, sports betting operators, sovereign tribal nations, lotteries, and industry suppliers across the country began asking GLI to establish a clear and cohesive technical standard for sports/event wagering systems designed to help them regulate and/or implement legal wagering on sports and other events. Responding to this stakeholder demand, GLI spent approximately one-year formulating GLI-33, which was submitted for industry-wide comment via an advisory notice on May 18, 2018.

GLI Leverages Decades of Global Sports Betting Experience

Leveraging its decades of extensive global sports/event wagering experience throughout markets in Australia, Europe, Africa, Latin America, Canada, and the U.S. (Nevada), GLI’s global team of sports betting experts has been working closely with industry stakeholders across the country to help prepare them for the expansion of regulated sports betting in the U.S. These types of industry collaborations are immeasurably valuable for the industry as they allow interested parties to guide technical standardization across the industry.

“As the first and most experienced independent event-wagering testing and certification lab in the world, we used our nearly 30 years of global sports-wagering experience to develop GLI-33, the world’s first event-wagering standard that can be effectively deployed by jurisdictions across the U.S. to ensure the integrity of the country’s dramatically expanding sports betting opportunities,” stated James Maida, President and CEO of GLI.

“We are gratified that so many gaming authorities, operators, and industry suppliers across the country reached out to GLI as their essential technical partner to cooperate in developing this new technical standard for event wagering,” Maida added. “Thanks to this extensive and close collaborative effort, the draft GLI-33 standard offers a starting point for clear guidance regarding betting integrity and a way to move forward responsibly in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent ruling striking down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). We encourage broad participation as we refine this extensive document into a useful template for the U.S. market.”

GLI-33 Public Comment Period Concludes June 8, 2018

The draft of GLI-33, which is available at http://www.gaminglabs.com/gli-standards, is being provided to gaming and lottery regulators, suppliers, test laboratories, operators, industry trade associations, and other key stakeholders for review and comment for a limited time. Written comments are encouraged and can be submitted to GLI upon review of the linked PDF copy of GLI-33 provided here. The formal comment period began with the issuance of the GLI-33 Advisory on May 18, 2018, and concludes in three weeks from that date, on June 8, 2018. Comments should be submitted to the “GLI Compliance” mailbox at Compliance@gaminglabs.com

GLI Standards Are the World Standard Each standard in the GLI Standard Series is a culmination of industry best-practices and is continually updated based on industry feedback. The GLI Standards are true “industry standards” in that they are created using a collaborative approach which involves thousands of gaming industry stakeholders. These standards are intended to assist regulators by creating baseline technical guidelines which they can adopt and/or utilize in the manner they see fit. In addition to assisting regulators, the standards are of tremendous value to suppliers who use the standards as a guide in their design and development process, saving both time and expense. American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) Reaffirms ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation for Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®), Making it the Most Highly Accredited Lab in the World

Zero Deficiencies Found in Las Vegas, Vancouver, and Wheat Ridge Labs

LAKEWOOD, N.J. (May 21, 2018) – Gaming Laboratories International’s (GLI®) laboratories in Lakewood, New Jersey, Las Vegas, Nevada, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Wheat Ridge, Colorado have once again earned biennial accreditation for ISO/IEC 17025 technical standards from the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA). The audit yielded zero deficiencies in the Las Vegas, Vancouver, and Wheat Ridge labs.

GLI laboratories have been accredited by the A2LA for 12 years. With 14 accredited labs globally, GLI has established itself as the most highly accredited gaming testing lab in the world by a wide margin. The GLI Group of Companies maintains 27 accreditations from various accreditation bodies worldwide.

The rigorous accreditation process takes several weeks to complete and involves written responses and onsite inspections.

A2LA accreditation is a requirement by some regulators and serves the purpose of holding GLI’s operations accountable to a third party with internationally accepted standards for quality and excellence.

“Achieving A2LA accreditation is a costly and highly involved process. This accreditation is absolutely essential to the work we do for our customers around the globe because it gives our customers all the more reason to have increased confidence in GLI,” said GLI Vice President of Compliance Chris Gallo. “GLI has a very mature and effective management system that assures consistently high quality and comparable results across all offices, and it is that consistency in quality that is important to our regulatory, supplier, and operator clients.”

Upon completion of the Las Vegas lab audit, an A2LA auditor commented that he was impressed with the management systems in place which lead to consistent quality in the execution of testing processes across all GLI offices.

GLI invests nearly $120,000 in fees and expenses each year to uphold global accreditation. This does not account for the labor cost for the dedicated team that manages GLI’s quality system globally, or the nearly 1,000 hours required in support of the accreditation process annually.

GLI Quality Manager Mark Mensik is responsible for GLI’s global accreditations, and he and his team are diligent in using quality metrics to constantly refine GLI’s procedures in compliance with accreditation standards.

“Because of Mark’s expertise and constant pursuit of excellence, our lab teams are able to live up to our commitment to be the trusted global compliance and quality expert relied upon by our clients – delivering world-class customer service and value that is unmatched,” Gallo said.

About A2LA

Celebrating its 40th anniversary, A2LA is the only independent, 501(c)3, non-profit, internationally recognized accreditation body in the United States that offers a full range of comprehensive laboratory and laboratory-related accreditation services and training. Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) Offers Proven Sports Betting Testing & Consultancy Services

LAKEWOOD, NJ (May 16, 2018) – When the Supreme Court struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA), the landmark decision paved the way for numerous business opportunities relating to legal betting on sports across the U.S. The proven sports betting and consultancy team at Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) has been on this playing field for decades, providing jurisdictions with the game plan they need for success in this global sports-betting arena.

“This is a watershed moment in the history of sports wagering here in New Jersey and throughout the country,” stated James Maida, GLI President/CEO. “For decades, GLI has been successfully providing feedback on sports and event wagering technical standards to governments around the world. It’s now time for GLI to leverage everything in our toolbox to facilitate faster time-to-market for those looking to execute the same results in the U.S.”

As the first and most experienced independent sports-betting testing and certification laboratory in the world, GLI is using its years of sports-betting expertise to help prepare legislators and regulators of sovereign tribal nations, aspiring sports betting operators, software suppliers, and U.S. states to effectively implement and regulate legal betting on sports across the nation.  GLI’s veteran team of sports-betting experts are helping clients and customers craft a winning sports-betting strategy in this post-PASPA era. Additionally, GLI provides training and workshops to better understand sports betting through its GLI University®.

“With this window of opportunity presenting itself for the first time to the industry domestically,” added Maida, “our team of more than 75 dedicated technical compliance, regulatory service, and supplier services staff have spent more than a year working with industry stakeholders to help prepare our customers by pulling from our deep pool of experience in sports/event wagering across global markets in Australia, Europe, Africa, Latin America, Canada, and the United States (Nevada). They are experts across the various elements, including betting integrity systems, IBIS, and geolocation.”

Betting integrity and the impact that wagering can have on “fairness of contest” is a key area that will be a focus of states and tribes as they consider how to approach sports betting. GLI is well positioned to assist in the implementation and evaluation of systems that address betting integrity and to provide subject-matter expertise to policymakers.

GLI’s Vice President of iGaming Salim Adatia added,“The rush is now on. Stakeholders who have been waiting for this day will benefit from engaging a lab with the most sports betting evaluation experience, technical competencies, and regulatory knowledge in order to best position themselves for success. GLI uses its extensive resources, expertise, proprietary technology, and carefully designed systems to offer a one-stop-shop for regulatory/technical requirements consultancy, sports-betting platform and application testing, and security auditing including penetration testing, vulnerability analysis, and threat and risk assessments.”

GLI’s testing assures online event wagers comply with appointed jurisdictional technical standards and best practices. They ensure wagers are accepted in a fair and secure manner so that resultant betting outcomes are in accordance with pre-specified rules. Additionally, GLI’s testing assures all wagers placed are correctly resolved and paid based on the correct odds and rules corresponding to the game or event. Moreover, this testing ensures appropriate mechanisms and controls are in place for adherence to technical requirements associated with the handling of wager disruptions and cancellations, abandoned events, and refunds.

In addition, GLI compares the front-end activity with back-end results and confirms that a complete and accurate log of transactions, performance, and payments are available upon request from the system for regulatory, taxation, player dispute, or other purposes.

“Whether you are a legislator, regulator, operator or product developer, GLI is available at your convenience to share insights on this landmark SCOTUS ruling repealing PASPA, and to offer information and solutions needed to ensure you and your staff are prepared for what is sure to be a formative period in the U.S. gaming industry,” Adatia concluded.

Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) First Lab Accredited to Test and Certify Skill-Based Amusement Machines (SBAM) in Ohio

LAS VEGAS, NV (April 18, 2018) – Gaming Laboratories International (GLI®) announced today that it has become the first independent testing lab to be accredited by the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) to test and certify skill-based amusement machines (SBAM) in the state.

Read press release online here: https://prn.to/2HIbSlH

“We are extremely pleased that the Ohio Casino Control Commission voted in favor of accrediting GLI as the first independent laboratory certified to test skill-based amusement machines,” said Kevin P. Mullally, GLI’s Vice President of Government Relations and General Counsel. “We look forward to continuing our work with the Commission to implement the provisions of the skill-based amusement device law passed by the Ohio legislature in 2015. We are committed not only to serving the needs of the Commission but to providing suppliers of SBAMs and operators with outstanding value and customer service.”

According to the OCCC’s rules governing skill-based amusement machines, before an independent SBAM testing laboratory is certified by the Commission, it must undergo an investigation by the Commission to determine its competency and qualifications to conduct testing of SBAMs in accordance with Chapters 2915 and 3772 of the state’s Revised Code. The investigation covers such areas as corporate structure, policies and procedures, experience and expertise, staffing and equipment, and demonstrated skill in conducting testing to the appropriate standards.

Under the new rules and definitions governing SBAMs developed by the OCCC which take effect April 23, 2018, there are three categories of skill-based games that fall under the OCCC’s jurisdiction:

  • Category “A” games do not enable a payer to receive a prize as a reward with the exception of free replays (e.g. pinball and arcade-style games)
  • Category “B” games involve a player using skill to obtain a prize wholly contained within the machine (e.g. crane and claw machines)
  • Category “C” games allow players to redeem tickets, vouchers, or tokens awarded from the machine to obtain a prize (e.g. games usually found at family entertainment centers and similar establishments)

Senior Engineering Manager, Andrew Baran, represented GLI at today’s Commission meeting. “We have put a lot of effort into ensuring that our team is prepared to fully meet the needs of the skill game market in Ohio. We appreciate the diligent manner the Commission is taking in ensuring testing labs are fully qualified and we are proud of the intensive effort we are putting into this project.”

Among the attendees were some of the most recognizable and influential Tribal gaming and state government leaders.

Presented by GLI University® and billed as the largest educational and networking event of its kind for gaming and lottery industry regulators, the two-day conclave is a mix of informative workshops and inspiring general sessions covering a wide range of mission-critical topics, such as advanced game concepts, blockchain technology, skill-based gaming, sports betting, eSports, and technical standards.

A packed general session heard Kerry Bubolz, president of the Vegas Golden Knights NHL hockey team, for an enthusiastically received keynote address highlighting the impact the Vegas Golden Knights have had on both Las Vegas and the sport of hockey in their inaugural year.

Then, GLI President and CEO James Maida took the stage with an address focused on the theme, “Everything we do, we do for you.” He said GLI is expanding its already world-class capabilities with four independent organizations – GLI, Bulletproof, Kobetron™, and SLI Compliance™ – united by the common purpose of continually serving clients better. Maida emphasized that GLI’s nearly 30 years of experience, more than 1,100 global employees, and 21 laboratories are unmatched in the industry.

Maida also stressed that because “bad guys are getting better,” it’s more imperative than ever for regulators to stay ahead of the game, “because the risks are too high for anything else.” He noted that, based on client feedback, GLI is focused on continuous improvement of people, products, and processes; adding that GLI will be expanding its education through free industry leading webinars, creating a technical point of contact for every regulator, and increasing the number of regional seminars.

Attendees also enjoyed a thought-provoking discussion by Maida and Chad Kornett, GLI’s Director of Technical Compliance, on the future of gaming innovation. Maida and Kornett engaged in a lively interchange covering such hot-button issues as cryptocurrency, sports betting, virtual reality, and the emergence of eSports and skill-based gaming.

Additionally, students from UNLV’s Center for Gaming Innovation showcased new and emerging technologies.

The exciting opening day of the 2018 North American Regulators Roundtable concluded with an exclusive VIP cocktail reception overlooking the glittering Las Vegas Strip at the top of the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. The chic House of Blues Foundation Room was the perfect setting for regulator attendees to meet and mingle directly with more than 160 gaming and lottery suppliers from around the world who joined the event, enjoying this rare opportunity to directly interact with such a large number of regulators.

GLI Asia is Celebrating Ten Years of Service to the Macau Gaming Market

MACAU, China (February 13, 2018) – As we enter the new year, GLI Asia is celebrating ten years of service to the Macau gaming market and to the operators, regulators, and suppliers of the surrounding regions in Asia-Pacific. The expert testing and consulting staff has been honored to diligently serve clients in land-based gaming, online gaming, and lottery sectors with unsurpassed skill and commitment, and like the year of the dog teaches us, GLI’s customer-focused approach is centered on the qualities of honesty, loyalty, and responsibility.

Photo: Download high res image of Marina Wong here: bit.ly/2soujI9

GLI Asia officially opened for operation on 20 July 2007. Since that time, the lab has grown to more than 300 square meters (about 3,300 square feet) and is the most structured test lab in Asia.

“It has been an honor and a thrill to see our business grow with customer demand. It is especially humbling when our customers return to us again and again, asking us for additional service offerings, allowing us to grow along with them,” said Marina Wong, GLI Asia’s General Manager of Client Services.

Another exciting aspect of GLI Asia’s Macau presence is its positive impact on the local economy, with each of the lab’s employees being local Macau residents. In fact, four employees have been with the company nearly since the lab’s opening. Julian Lei and Nathan Chang have been with the lab since 2009, and Ben Leung has been with GLI Asia since 2010. Their long-term presence and insights are a boon to GLI’s clients and to the lab’s other employees.

“We are proud that so many of our employees have chosen to stay with GLI Asia for so long,” Wong said. “Their experience is incredibly valuable to our clients, and to the other staff members. When new employees join us, they are able to quickly learn from our long-term employees and expand their knowledge base.”

Because of their expertise, GLI Asia staff have become in-demand speakers on lottery issues throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Today the lab serves clients of all sizes in land-based gaming, online gaming, and in lotteries. Key services the lab provides include testing for hardware, software, platforms, systems, games, and RNGs.

GLI Asia also helped successfully develop China’s first gaming technical standard – “Technical Gaming Standards for Online Lottery Systems and Betting Terminals.” The lab has also executed numerous high-profile lottery projects in Beijing, China; South Korea; and Taiwan.

For Wong, the GLI Asia staff, and for GLI as a company, over the past ten years, the mission has remained the same: “We put the customer first,” Wong said. “We understand that when our customers succeed, we succeed. When regulators rest easier, when suppliers are able to speed up their time-to-market and reduce expenses, when operators’ casino floors are compliant and secure, and when the products are fair for everyone – that is when we know we have succeeded, together.”

So what does the future hold for GLI Asia? Wong said, “As we celebrate the year of the dog, we will continue to keep in mind our focus on honesty, loyalty, and responsibility. That is how we have earned both regulators’ and our clients’ trust, and we will continue to work hard every day to maintain that trust and to continue to be the most reliable lab in Macau, in Asia, and in the world.”
